Dear Friends:

        I am pleased to join the Child Welfare League of America, We Care About Kids, and the Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies at the John Wayne Cancer institute in honoring Gladys Knight and the award winning cast of The Practice. This is quite an impressive group gathered together for several important causes. I regret that my duties in the United States Senate prevent me from attending this event.

        I also wish to congratulate the recipients of the Child Welfare League of America's awards: Shuki Levy for the spirit of giving, David Liederman for protecting America's children, Bradley O'Leary for humanitarianism, Shannon Reed for her giving spirit, and Daphna Edwards Ziman for uniting the children of the world.

        All of the organizations and individuals being recognized this evening, including the American Diabetes Association, have made priceless contributions in the effort to combat child abuse and neglect, disease, and racism, Your compassion and commitment have truly made possible one giant leap for humanity toward healthier, happier, and stronger families.

        Again, congratulations to all the participants in "A Family Celebration".
